The Center for Environmental Law and Natural Resources or CEDARENA is an apolitical, non-profit association, founded in 1989 and declared of the public's interest with headquarters in San José, Costa Rica.
As technical partners to Initiative 20x20, CEDARNEA articulates opportunities for landscape restoration in Latin America through actions framed under its three programs or technical areas:
- Program in Sustainable Landscapes Management
- Integrated Water Resources Management Program
- Climate Change and Renewable Energy Program
In addition, all activities under these programs are framed by two cross-cutting themes including environmental law - which involves public policies - and climate change.
With over 30 years of experience, CEDARENA has adapted to meet the demands of the national and international environmental agenda mainly by:
- Advising on policy-making and analysis. For years, CEDARENA has played a very important role in the construction and discussion of public policies and analysis, both nationally and internationally.
- Supporting local and national governments to enable the execution of projects, resolution of conflicts, and leading investigations.
- Identifying restoration and conservation projects that may interest impact investors. CEDERENA works with different networks that constantly seek to support the conservation and restoration actions of various forest owners, such as the issue of Payment for Environmental Services and Ecological Easements as private forest protection mechanisms and the creation of biodiversity corridors.
Gathering from experience, members of CEDARENA will support the Initiative 20x20 task forces on carbon markets, policy and legislation, incentives, and the investment ecosystem.
