As the largest owner of commercial bamboo plantations globally, EcoPlanet Bamboo is leading the industrialization of bamboo as a viable and environmentally attractive alternative fiber for timber manufacturing industries. The conversion of degraded land into certified bamboo plantations is coupled with innovative technology development to provide bamboo-based solutions for products and markets that currently contribute to the deforestation of our world’s natural forests.
Founded in 2010, today EcoPlanet Bamboo is a well-established, profitable and proven company with more than 500 employees and 10,000 hectares under management across three countries and two continents. They are currently entering the next stage of their strategic growth, scaling up across geographies, technologies and markets in preparation for a planned initial public offering within the next 5-year period.
In Latin America, EcoPlanet Bamboo has joined Initiative 20x20 as a project developer, providing technical assistance to governments on the role that bamboo can play in achieving their FLR goals.
In Nicaragua, EcoPlanet Bamboo is recognized as a bamboo plantation and processing company that focuses on the provision of a secure and certified source of fiber for timber manufacturing industries and markets globally. These farms are where the bamboo species Guadua aculeata grows on land that once was deforested and suffering from soil compaction and serves to connect remnant forest patches with native species.
Camille Rebelo, co-founder and managing partner of the company, has expressed their interest in investment in Mexico and Brazil. The team is in search of degraded lands that do not compete with food production but can be restored to fully functioning ecosystems. EcoPlanet Bamboo’s plantations have the FSC certification which ensures the responsible management of these plantations. The minimum investment/loan size per project is US$10M.
