Founded in 2008, GGF is one of Peru's largest holders of production forest concessions with 254,000 hectares, mainly in the Rio Napa area in northeastern Peru. The group is a pioneer in applying forest management practices that focus on conservation and restoration rather than logging, and its business model is underpinned by sales of verified carbon credits. GGF is driven by its conviction that forests can truly be managed sustainably, protecting Peru's remarkable fauna and flora for posterity.
GGF's core focus is on working with forest communities, creating new jobs and supporting sustainable enterprises that strengthen the forest economy and improve livelihoods, while conserving nature and mitigating and adapting to climate change. Its network of partners ranges from community federations to regional government, local companies, NGOs, technologists and renowned research institutions.
GGF maintains multiple certifications, including with the Forest Stewardship Council, and Verra's Verified Carbon Standard.
The group's Peru team has considerable practical experience in forest conservation, carbon project management, community engagement, and sustainable enterprise development for non-timber forest products. Internationally, GGF maintains active engagement within the climate finance community and with academic researchers, especially in the fields of biodiversity and plant conservation.
GGF is interested in participating in the Initiative's Task Forces, particularly Good Practices and Biodiversity.
