Ovis 21 is a company that regenerates degraded grasslands and protects biodiversity so Patagonia's land can sustain people, their businesses and communities. By raising sheep across more than 500,000 hectares of well-managed land, the company is aiming to transform the wool industry into a profitable and sustainable economic opportunity while protecting animal rights.
As a certified B Corp, Ovis 21 has changed the way wool is made in Patagonia by training local people and creating a sustainable supply chain for more than a decade. The company manages a network of more than 60 field professionals and 160 farms that cover the Argentinean and Chilean Patagonia and other livestock producing areas like the pampas region of northeast Argentina and Uruguay.
In collaboration with Initiative 20x20 partner The Nature Conservancy, Ovis 21 developed the GRASS Standard for sustainable rangeland management, which currently has 1.3 million hectares under certification. The organization aims to contribute to the ongoing discussion on restoring grasslands in Latin America that Initiative 20x20 and its partners are leading.
