Pomeroon Trading is the Caribbean's socially responsible grower and processor of coconuts. The company manages a 350-hectare estate in the Pomeroon Region of Guyana and is focused on land restoration and community-centric agriculture.
The company also has operations in Suriname, where it is a developing a mixed agro-forestry and a carbon offset projects (to be planted with coconut and hardwood trees in an environmentally friendly manner). The carbon offset project will involved the restoration and rehabilitation of mangroves along the coastline of Suriname.
Pomeroon's environmental activities include digging extensive drainage canals, planting thousands of hybrid coconut trees, building two coconut nursery for seedlings in separate countries, and academic data gathering and analysis for mangrove protection and restoration activities.
As a Financial Partner to Initiative 20x20, Pomeroon seeks to:
- Be an ambassador for the objectives of Initiative 20x20 in the Caribbean and Latin America. This will include engaging with governments, private sector companies, public sector institutions and individuals
- Continue to raise funding to pursue our goals and the wider objectives of land restoration
- Build a robust portfolio of agricultural sites in Guyana, Suriname and across the Caribbean and Latin America that combine economic prosperity and environmental sustainability
- Share our experience with the Initiative 20x20 community and partners to ensure better information-sharing and data gathering
- Participate in workshops on topics that support restoration and conservation
