Pomeroon Coconuts & Spices is the Caribbean's socially responsible grower and processor of coconuts and spices. The company manages a 350-hectare estate in the Pomeroon Region of Guyana and is focused on restoring land to make it financially and environmentally viable. The rehabilitation work includes digging extensive drainage furrows, planting tens of thousands of carefully selected coconut trees, building a coconut nursery for seedlings and implementing an intercropping program that includes plants from bananas to turmeric.
Pomeroon has already committed US$3 million to land rehabilitation in Guyana and seeks to pledge another US$10 million by 2020. It look to leverage private sector resources with public sector funding and research. Pomeroon believes that working with development finance institutions is key to scaling up restoration throughout Latin America.
In 2020, Pomeroon is issuing an initial public offering (IPO) on the Guyana Stock Exchange, becoming the first publicly-traded agribusiness in the country.
As a Financial Partner to Initiative 20x20, Pomeroon seeks to:
- Be an ambassador for the objectives of Initiative 20x20 in the Caribbean. This will include engaging with governments, private sector companies, public sector institutions and individuals
- Continue to raise funding to pursue our goals and the wider objectives of land restoration
