Timber Capital Limited is a forest asset manager and a project developer of Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation (ARR) as well as Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) projects in Latin America.
It is the investment manager of The Forest Company. Established in 2007, the firm invests in sustainable high growth forest plantations intertwined with high-biodiversity conservation areas in Latin America, building an attractive portfolio that combines income yield with capital appreciation while providing significant social and environmental impacts. The Forest Company owns a total of 75,000 hectares of land, with 80% of its planted area in Brazil and the remaining in Colombia. It harvests 1 million m3 of timber per year. The firm is also the majority shareholder of Silvotecnia, the leading forestry service company in Colombia with 497 employees.
Since 2019, Timber Capital is increasingly focused on developing reforestation and forest conservation projects funded through the sale of carbon credits. These projects are designed to help mitigate climate change and positively impact the environment and the surrounding communities.
Currently, Timber Capital is developing a large-scale ARR and REDD+ project in Latin America. Through this endeavor, it will invest USD 250 million until 2030 to restore 70,000 hectares of native forest and protect 1.1 million hectares of existing natural forest. The company is also deploying more than USD 50 million by 2025 in two further ARR projects currently under development in Latin America.
Additionally, it expects to deploy USD 250 million by 2025 through its Carbon Sequestration Strategy, which aims to provide early-stage financing to a diversified portfolio of ARR and REDD+ projects in Latin America. This will enable investors to gain exposure to carbon sequestering projects while mitigating the single project risk.
Timber Capital's Carbon Sequestration Strategy is open to impact investors and institutional investors with an interest in nature-based solutions for climate change with a strong social impact.
