Solidaridad is an international non-profit organization with 8 regional offices and projects in more than 40 countries. The organization has 50 years of experience in developing sustainable and socially inclusive supply chains in agro-commodities and small-scale mining. Its South America division, whose objective is to contribute to world food safety and the sustainable supply of raw materials, will be the main participants from Solidaridad within Initiative 20x20.
The organization's climate-smart production strategy for 2025 is to support its partner producer organizations in becoming self-reliant and raising awareness within their members about the benefits of low-carbon and deforestation-free agriculture.
Solidaridad's ambition is to convert 901,836 hectares of conventional production to climate-smart agriculture. It aims to maintain or increase production with less environmental impact, providing practical solutions to reduce deforestation. Its climate-smart regional programme will protect 527,348 hectares of forests in critical biomes such as the Amazon, Cerrado, Chaco and Orinoquía by 2025. This is the most prominent strategy of the South America region. Solidaridad aims to enhance its program by improving its existing technical models and adapting them to the local circumstances in the region. It will link its climate-smart work with economic modelling that rewards producers for their efforts. Solidaridad will convene different actors in key-value chains to facilitate the dissemination of climate-smart agriculture in the region.
