The Faculty of Forest Sciences and Natural Resources, one of the founding faculties of the Austral University of Chile, is a pioneering institution of forestry education within Chile and in Latin America. It has historically been a national leader not only in vocational training, but also in research on forest ecosystems, restoration, water use, and biodiversity.
The Faculty has a long tradition in forestry and natural resources education, training professionals for more than 60 years in Chile. There are two graduate programs within the Faculty: a Master of Science program in Forests and the Environment, and a doctoral program in Forest Ecosystems and Natural Resources. Both programs are certified by the National Accreditation Commission of Chile.
The Faculty's role within the Initiative 20x20 network will focus on:
- Providing policy advice to governments that have made restoration commitments.
- Identifying sites where restoration projects could be developed.
- Sharing conservation and restoration practices with other Initiative 20x20 members.
- Supporting local and national governments in the development of landscape restoration and conservation plans.
- Identifying projects that could be of interest to impact investors.
- Contributing to the technical agenda of the Initiative though participation in technical reports, meetings, and other discussions.
- Communicating with the Initiative’s Secretariat, helping it to move the restoration agenda forward.
