Preferred by Nature (formerly known as NEPCon) is a non-profit organization that supports better land management and business practices that benefit people, nature and climate. The organization does this through a unique combination of sustainability certification services, awareness-raising, and capacity building.
For more than 25 years, Preferred by Nature has worked to drive positive impacts in production landscapes and supply chains in 100+ countries. It focuses on land use, primarily through commodities that impact forests, agriculture, and the climate, and related sectors such as tourism and conservation.
Preferred by Nature has recently developed a Forest Ecosystem Restoration Standard. This global Standard assesses the performance of forest ecosystem restoration at the field level in tropical, temperate and boreal biomes. It provides a structured approach and detailed checklist for verification of field performance in forest ecosystem restoration. The approach blends technical, environmental, social and economic attributes, and it is intended to be used by first, second, or third parties. The Standard is intended to be applicable to all scales and credible models of forest ecosystem restoration, including smallholder/community, medium-sized and large-scale operations.
Within Initiative 20x20, Preferred by Nature will collaborate with the Task Force on Best Practices and the Task Force on Monitoring and Transparency, the two areas most linked to its work and expertise.
