Biohabitats

With a mission to restore the Earth's natural and cultural resources and inspire ecological stewardship, Biohabitats is a values-driven, interdisciplinary company comprised of biologists, ecologists, geologists, landscape architects, planners, and engineers. They understand the challenges that governments, communities, and private companies face, and respond with solutions that are ecologically sound, realistic to implement, and cost-effective to manage.

Since 1982, Biohabitats has focused on conservation planning, ecological restoration, and regenerative design. Using a whole systems framework and a living systems approach, Biohabitats has worked with private clients, communities, tribal nations and governmental agencies internationally to regenerate ecological processes, economic resilience, and cultural vibrancy.

Biohabitats's work is varied both in scale and geographic reach. the rganization works at the regional and watershed scale preparing conservation plans for rare, threatened and endangered species, watershed management plans to improve water quality and ecosystem health, and large-scale climate resilience planning to restore ecosystem processes and green infrastructure.

As a complement to its large-scale work, Biohabitats leads design teams to prepare engineering and design plans for restoring rivers and streams, coastal and freshwater wetlands, forest and grasslands, and urban ecology, and performing invasive species management and phytoremediation. It also offers integrated water services that include rainwater harvesting and reuse, natural wastewater treatment systems, stormwater management, and water conservation strategies.

Biohabitats aims to add value to the Initiative 20x20 through connecting with its members, sharing its expertise in specific projects in Latin America and the Caribbean, and supporting the objectives of the Initiative beyond the 2020 mark.
