International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT)

Founded in Colombia in 1967, CIAT is an international not-for-profit organization whose mission is to reduce hunger and poverty and improve human nutrition in the tropics through research aimed at increasing agricultural “eco-efficiency.” CIAT’s work is guided by strategic objectives centered around sustainably improving agricultural productivity and boosting the nutritional quality of crops to increase incomes and food security in urban and rural areas.

CIAT collaborates with hundreds of partners to promote sustainable natural resource management strategies, including landscape restoration. CIAT is one of the 15 research centers that make up the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). As part of the CGIAR Research Program on Water, Land and Ecosystems, CIAT leads the flagship program on Restoring Degraded Landscapes (RDL). CIAT is also a founding member of the Global Landscape Forum and supports AFR100, a country-led effort to restore 100 million hectares of land in Africa by 2030.
