Founded in 1987, Conservation International is an American environmental non-profit that works to empower societies to protect nature and biodiversity as a source of food, livelihoods, and a stable climate. CI focuses on a range of topics around the world related to these goals, including energy and mining, food, forests, fresh water, oceans, global stability, and more.
CI builds its work upon a strong foundation of science, partnership and field demonstration. From previous work on forests, CI has technical expertise in avoided deforestation, REDD+ policy, blue carbon, and priority setting analyses. CI also has expertise in financing for conservation and REDD+.
CI has also worked extensively in “natural capital” accounting, which aims to quantify the stock of natural resources that combine to provide benefits to people and then incorporate that natural capital into business decision-making.
