South Pole has more than 15 years of experience in certifying carbon reductions and co-financing reforestation projects through carbon markets. Its work encompasses a variety of ecosystems and can involve mid- to large-scale reforestation projects, forest conservation, agroforestry systems, and other carbon sequestration activities. Since its establishment, South Pole has developed more than 700 carbon emission reduction projects and reduced over 170 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.
In Latin America, South Pole has co-financed and collaborated on a variety of projects. Some examples are the Yarumal REDD+ project and the Jaguar Corridor, both in Colombia, and the Muskitia project in Honduras. Another of South Pole's collaborations is located in Cimitarra and Tieralta, Colombia, restoring jaguar corridors by promoting alternative land management practices like agroforestry systems. South Pole is also part of ISA's initiative Conexión Jaguar, an Initiative 20x20 partner that aims to reconnect fragmented jaguar habitats.
As an organization with years of experience in financing restoration and forest conservation projects through carbon markets, South Pole will contribute actively to the Initiative 20x20 Task Force on Carbon Markets.
